I want to take just a moment and thank Pastor Randy Hennigan from Price, Texas and Brother Tom Thompson from New Straitsville Ohio for many  years of service to this ministry. Most people don’t know what it takes to be on this board there are times where we fight like brothers and sisters do and there are other times where all we can do is  cry and hug each others neck. The board is like a family probably like many of your families but at the end of the day we all know who we serve and why we do what we do. For His Glory not ours so again to the both of you Thank You for your sacrifice, time and money that you put towards this ministry, only time will tell on the other side of glory as to what effect all of this will be to the kingdom of God.

The Azusa StreetRiders Board is now accepting applications for our National Road Captain. This is an assigned position for a period of at least one year to be renewed or changed next year at our National Rally in Maryville, TN.

Please email your application along with why you feel your the right person for the job to  asr.national@azusastreetriders.com. We would hope to have an announcement by October 1st.

Also included for the first time is an outline of what the board is looking for in a Road Caption. This is ONLY an outline so if there are items on this list that you do not feel qualified for please do not be discouraged and send the application anyway.  We only wish to express that going forward these positions assigned by the Board should require some kind of a qualification process.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL ROAD CAPTAINS

The following is a “suggested” list of requirements for the National Road Captain and Chapter Road Captain to consider when applying.

> Valid driver’s license with motorcycle endorsement (If Required within your State).

> Valid motorcycle insurance for the motorcycle you participate with.

> A member of the ASR Ministry for a least 1 year

> Complete a MSF sponsored Advanced Riders Safety Course within one year.

> Complete a Basic First Aid Course within one year. (American Red Cross Preferred)

> Road Captain will operate their motorcycle in a safe manner

> If you observe a ride participant with a motorcycle or is operating a motorcycle that could present a safety hazard to the rider or any ride participant, you will direct that individual to correct his/her equipment and/or behavior immediately.

> Do not challenge the rider of a motorcycle by  yourself; try to contact the an officer of that Chapter or member. If they are not available at least get another rider to help you. They are your witnesses.

> Treat all ride participants with the same respect that you would expect to be treated.

ROAD CAPTAIN REQUIREMENTS The following is a list of requirements that all Road Captains are expected to accomplish throughout the calendar year in order to maintain their status as either as the National Road Captain or Chapter Road Captain for the ASR Ministry.

> Attend in at least 2 or more Chapter rides.

> Attend at least 1/2 of all Road Captain Meetings.

> Attend at least 1/2 of all your local Chapter Meetings.

> Assist in at least 25% of an advertised Pre-rides.

> Assist in at least 50% of Chapter rides requiring a Road Captain support.

> Although it is not mandatory, it is strongly encouraged that RC’s mentor/assist the local chapter Road Captain on the rides that require RC support. The intent is to assure that National Road Captain and local Chapter Road Captains have an opportunity to learn good group riding skills.

> Report to local chapter President or presiding board member at each event, at the appointed time.

> Go to your assignment which could include any of the following and possibly some not listed. 1.) Help with set-up of things.

2.) Crowd control.

3.) Traffic control.

4.) Watch for safety issues, both on motorcycles and participants.

5.) Help insure that participants have an enjoyable and positive event

6.) Any other request from the chapter / event coordinator or president to promote a good event

> Stay at your assignment until you are replaced or released from the assignment.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for having me on the board the last 4 years. It has been a great experience with lot of eye-opening experiences along the way. Each of the 3 board members I served with has made me a better wiser person in their own way and I love and appreciate each one of you. I wrote and read a few thoughts at the rally but thought I would share with you all. I guess you could say my vision of ASR.

The Apostolic church is thee Acts 2:38 Oneness Holy Ghost church and it is not a denomination so to say. If Azusa Street riders are going to be unified and reach the lost we must not try to operate as a denomination but as a extension of our home church serving under our home pastor living a Godly life as we are taught by our home pastor. Azusa street riders is a Motorcycle Ministry to reach the lost, we are not here to sanctify saints and put holiness rule on our members, that is what our home church and pastor is for. Let’s be motorcycle ministers reaching the lost and bring them to the local church they are close to and let the pastor take over. Let’s continue to furnish motorcycles to missionaries and not try to pastor our fellow members. Last but not least we must let all bikers know they have a friend in Azusa street riders! Friend them to win them!

Is Facebook good or bad for our Azusa StreetRiders ministry?

Azusa StreetRiders never intended for members to post any and everything on Facebook as now seems to be the case. In our earlier years, we had a proprietary website where posts were confined to members-only and it had a—for lack of a better term—Facebook-like utility for all members to use. We could post and it wouldn’t get beyond our members. Unfortunately, we had to abandon its use because of spam-bot fake registrations which began to post all kinds of things; advertisements and even links to sketchy sites. As a result, we decided to go to Facebook itself and try to “monitor” all posts. Despite the tremendous efforts of moderators, it’s proven to be a difficult and tedious job that often finds posts lingering on our ASR pages for too long before being noticed and removed. Since there is not another viable alternative, we will continue to use Facebook and will continue to monitor as best as we can.

This being said, we as professing Oneness Apostolic believers who want to present ourselves acceptable to God (Rom 12:1) need to use both wisdom and constraint in what we post. Today, I believe the tongue has serious competition as thumbs and fingers are vying to be the most unruly members of the body. Many of us are too quick to post in response to someone else. Or negative, divisive posts are made that divide the body. Hate speech is not free speech.

For these reasons, I’m asking that all of us look at the intent of the two Facebook groups that Azusa StreetRiders have, “Friends” and “Members Only.”

On the “Members Only” group, just posts pertaining directly to ASR should be made. This is where our “family” should be corresponding with things that affect all members or would be of interest to all members. Questions and answers as to how to have outreach, thoughts about dates for Biker Sundays, and uplifting comments about events attended are but a few of the things that are appropriate. This page is no place to chastise individuals, make threats, or even criticize people. If you feel the necessity of posting these type things, I suggest you first read James 3:1-18, and then go directly to the individual and don’t spread dirty laundry and division.

In the “Friends” group, more general information pertaining to the ministry is acceptable. Here, we should post of upcoming events, tell of the results of past events, and encourage others to use their God-given talents to benefit all. This is not a place to post political thoughts, promotions from other businesses or organizations, controversial topics within ASR or even talk about other ministries negatively. This page was initially set up to create excitement so that other bikers would desire to join ASR and spread the gospel.

By being on Facebook, we all have a “personal” page for anything we wish to discuss, promote, or present. Please, let’s use our personal pages for things that don’t belong on ASR’s two pages. By doing so, we’ll make life much easier on the moderators and promote unity among the members instead of strife and division. Any post found to be questionable or divisive will be immediately taken down from both friends page and members only page and the one posting will be notified. But even on our personal pages, any ASR member found causing strife or division concerning ASR as a ministry or concerning negative comments about our members will be subject to reprimand or possibly expulsion from the ministry. Remember Jesus’ instruction about someone you have a problem with? It’s covered in Matthew 18:15-17.

So, is Facebook good or bad for ASR? The answer is, “It depends.” It depends on how it’s used. If you’re an Azusa StreetRider, you ARE a minister! “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14) I believe this passage completely answers the question!
