Collision Course

Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
Proverbs 4:25-27

Experienced motorcyclists will tell you that one of the most common reasons motorcycles crash is due to a phenomenon called “target fixation.” Loosely defined, target fixation is a behavior in which a person becomes so focused on a singular object that they tend to ride (or drive) straight into it. This occurs more commonly in motorcyclists because the steering on a motorcycle is much more attuned to the miniscule, sometimes-subconscious, movements of the rider. In other words, it’s easier for a motorcyclist to steer their vehicle toward an object than it is to do so while driving a car.

The same can go for our walk with God. As we navigate this life, we can inadvertently allow ourselves to become fixated on the cares of life, and become sidetracked from our path. 1 Peter 5:7-8, says, casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. The enemy is on the prowl, waiting for the seemingly inevitable collision when you lose your focus, and everything comes crashing down.

The good news? There’s a solution!
Just as target fixation on your motorcycle can be corrected, it can also be corrected in your spiritual walk, and the solution fits for both.

LOOK WHERE YOU WANT TO GO.

We must look no further than the Word of God for instruction and help.

  • Therefore, I will look unto the Lord, I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me. Micah 7:7
  • Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith….. Hebrews 12:2
  • I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. Psalms 12:1

As long as we keep our eyes on Jesus, we need not worry about where we’re headed. I would much rather be fixated on my Jesus, than anything this world can offer, or the enemy can distract with. What better collision course to be on than the one that guarantees that you are always headed toward Jesus?

We live in a world that has embraced the ideology of following your own desires and your own feelings, and there are voices all around saying go this way, or go that way.

I choose God’s way.
I choose to look unto God.
I choose to fixate upon Jesus, so that my path will always be on a collision course with Him.
