A New Thing Coming

By Sis. Jennifer Hayes

Today I was thinking about Spring. It is a beautiful season, bringing life to what was dead. We’ve been preparing for our Easter play at church, and there’s a song about Jesus making all things new again. I can’t help but compare spring to this song.

Jesus promised to make all things new. Lametations 3:22-23 says, His mercies are new each morning and because of His mercies we are not consumed. Many of us have gone through, or are going through a season that feels like were going to be consumed by all the darkness in it. All you can see is the dark. You feel like giving up, you feel like God doesn’t hear you, or isn’t even listening. This is a season but death is not the end. Jesus felt death. He experienced it. But, it wasn’t the end. He made something new out of His death.

I can’t help but think of the verse in Proverbs 6:6-8, Go to the ant, thou sluggard; Consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. Verse 10 says yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep.

In the dark and dreary seasons it would be easy to throw up our hands and just give up sleep. But, I challenge everyone reading this to be like the ANTS. They are constantly working. They are prudent and care about the future. Studies have found that ants nap, on average, 250 times a day, lasting just over a minute each time. They take a one minute nap and they’re back at it. They are constantly looking for new places to go and colonize. Also, they leave behind a scent of where they have been so they know how to get back home.

We need to mark the dark and dreary seasons as landmarks, or take a one minute nap if you will,  and get back out there working for the kingdom, finding new locations to reach the lost.

Find new fields to harvest. In John 9:4 I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

I pray that Spring will bring newness. That even though you have went through a season that was dark and dreary, and it felt like it was going to consume you that you will use that moment of darkness as a landmark to mark where the newness will begin.

The song, “I Got A New Thing Coming”, has been on my mind for a month, and I believe ASR is going to see a new thing this year. We’ve seen people repent of their sins, get baptized in Jesus Name, and receive the Holy Ghost. We have witnessed people being healed.

I just believe with my whole heart that this year, we’re going reap more than what we have ever seen before, and now is not the time to fold our hands and sleep, but to rise up and be like the ants, and work while there is time.

I love each and everyone of you,  and pray for you often.
